We all know that April showers bring May flowers, but did you know that May is also the time to celebrate Greenery Day? Being in the floral industry, it’s no surprise that we get super excited for a holiday that brings people closer to the world around us. Every May 4th in Japan, appreciation is given to nature with events that bring people closer to the Earth we walk on. If it wasn’t for the beautiful jewels of this earth, we wouldn’t be where we are today. As appreciation to every pretty petal that nature has given us, we’d like to to share a few things you probably didn’t know about the floral industry.
I know you might be thinking “If they love the Earth so much, then why are they taking away all of the flowers?” Trust us, the industry definitely took this into consideration. From roses to ranunculus to hydrangeas, all of the wonderful flowers used for arrangements and at events are grown specifically for that purpose. We want flowers to stay perfectly untouched in nature, but we also love having these beauties bloom specifically for you.
Not only does the floral industry keep nature beautiful, it also provides over 90,000 people with careers. If you really love flowers, don’t worry–the industry is still growing! Between weddings, events, holidays, birthdays, and those other special days, the industry brings in $7 billion in annual revenue. Dealing with flowers also makes for a very eco-friendly business.
With Greenery Day right around the corner how will you show your appreciation? The world outside of your front door is filled with wonders. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses every now and then.
